Projections: 'Lego Movie' Faces Little Competition14 Jul, 2014 By: John Latchem
A light slate of new releases should pave the way for Warner's The Lego Movie to repeat atop the home video sales charts for the week ending July 13. The animated movie has already topped the charts twice in its three weeks of release, debuting at No. 1 its first week before dropping to No. 2 behind Warner's 300: Rise of an Empire in its second week, then overtaking Empire a week later.
The top new release for the week is Universal's Bad Words, an 'R'-rated comedy from Jason Bateman that earned just $7.8 million in theaters. The film could debut as high as No. 2 if 300: Rise of an Empire sales slide far enough in that film's third week.
On the rental chart, Universal's Non-Stop came off its 28-day holdback from Redbox and should easily land at No. 1, with holdovers Lone Survivor, from Universal, and Fox's RoboCop remake holding steady near the top.
