Projections: July 4 Holiday Could Push 'Beauty' Back to Top Spot

10 Jul, 2017 By: John Latchem

A lack of major new releases on July 4, not to mention consumers distracted by holiday plans, will likely push one of the strong holdovers to the top of the home video charts the week ending July 9.

The most likely option would seem to be Disney's Beauty and the Beast live-action remake, which jumped back into the top spot under similar conditions a few weeks ago in the film's third week on shelves. Now in its fifth week on disc, it might have a harder time getting to the top spot, but it's still far and away the biggest box office hit released on disc in the past month.

Other solid contenders for that top spot is Lionsgate's Power Rangers, which took the top spot in its debut a week earlier, and Lionsgate's John Wick Chapter 2, which was No. 1 a few weeks ago upon its debut, but is now in its fourth week.

On the weekly rental chart, Warner's CHiPs arrived at Redbox rental kiosks after its week-long holdback and should take over the top spot.
