Projections: 'Iron Lady' Looks To Rule the Week

16 Apr, 2012 By: John Latchem

The slow start to the second quarter continues as the two biggest titles released April 10 combined for only $51 million at the U.S. box office.

The advantage goes to The Weinstein Company’s The Iron Lady, which grossed $29.7 million in theaters and won Oscars for makeup and Meryl Streep’s portrayal of British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

The other notable new release is Summit’s sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour, which grossed $21.4 million.

Fox’s The Descendants comes off its 28-rental embargo and should finish high on the rental chart.
