Projections: 'Huntsman' Hoping to Outpace 'Walking Dead'

29 Aug, 2016 By: John Latchem

Universal's The Huntsman: Winter's War will battle Anchor Bay's The Walking Dead: The Complete Sixth Season for the top spot on the home video charts the week ended Aug. 28.

The Hunstman: Winter's War is a sequel to 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, and grossed just $48 million at the domestic box office, about one-third the $155.3 million tally of the first movie. It's also the highest-profile former theatrical release hitting shelves for the week, and its franchise and cast considerations should draw out consumers who may have skipped the title in theaters because they were awaiting the Blu-ray.

The sixth season of "The Walking Dead" brings the built-in legion of the mega-popular show's fans, though the Internet has cut into the sales performance of TV shows on disc in recent years.

Also looking to make a statement on the charts is Warner's The Nice Guys, which earned $36.3 million in U.S. theaters, but is the kind of movie that has 'cult hit' written all over it.

On the rental chart, Universal's The Boss should jump to No. 1 now that it's 28-day delay at Redbox kiosks has ended.
