Projections: 'Guardians' Keeping Eye on 'Baywatch'

4 Sep, 2017 By: John Latchem

Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will likely hold onto the top spot on the home video sales charts the week ending Sept. 2 if it can hold off newcomers such as Paramount's Baywatch and Disney's The Lion King.

Guardians was the overwhelming top disc seller in its debut week, so the big question will be how much the top new titles can cut into what should be a big second week.

Baywatch, a comedy based on the cult favorite TV show, was a theatrical underperformer, earning $58 million at the domestic box office.

The Lion King was re-released on Blu-ray as part of Disney's new "Signature Collection" premium line, and Disney animated re-releases tend to perform well on disc.

On the weekly rental chart, Baywatch is on course to debut at No. 1.
