Projections: 'Godzilla' Reaches for the 'Stars'22 Sep, 2014 By: John Latchem
Two big new releases from Sept. 16 are battling it out for the top spot on the disc sales charts for the week ending Sept. 21: Warner's Godzilla and Fox's The Fault in Our Stars.
Both were big at the box office, with Godzilla bringing in $200.7 million at the domestic box office, while The Fault in Our Stars brought in $124.8 million. Godzilla should have a wider appeal with its sci-fi adventure focus, while Stars, based on a popular novel about an ill-fated romance between cancer-striken teens, will appeal more toward women and teen girls.
On the rental chart, Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier should move up as Redbox stocks more copies of the DVD and Blu-ray, while newcomer Think Like a Man Too should debut highest among the newcomers, as Godzilla and Stars are distributed by studios that delay release to Redbox for 28 days.
