Projections: 'Frozen' Favored in Black Friday Shuffle

1 Dec, 2014 By: John Latchem

Post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzies typically shuffle the deck as far as the sales chart is concerned, often pushing older titles into top spots they haven't occupied in months or years. Thus, the best bet for the week ending Nov. 30 is Disney's Frozen.

The film already returned to the No. 2 spot a week earlier after the release if the "sing-along" edition, and its continued popularity a year after its theatrical release could drive it to the top spot thanks to Black Friday sales.

Otherwise, the chart is likely to be an unpredictable mesh of new and old titles; however, family fare typically prevails during Black Friday, which is good news for recent hits such as DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Disney's Maleficent.

The top new release for the week is likely to be a Lionsgate title, either The Expendables 3 or A Madea Christmas.

Things should be a bit calmer on the rental side of things, where The Expendables 3 will try to unseat Sony Pictures' 22 Jump Street for the top spot.
