Projections: 'Fifty Shades' Pushing On

18 May, 2015 By: John Latchem

After debuting atop the disc sales charts after just a couple of days in stores, Universal's Fifty Shades of Grey looks to maintain its position in its first full week at retail.

The the week ending May 17, Fifty Shades isn't facing much competition from new releases, though several have the potential of taking the top spot. Among them are Universal's cyber thriller Blackhat; Adam Sandler's The Cobbler, from Image Entertainment; and Lionsgate's Mortdecai, a notorious box office bomb starring Johnny Depp.

Mortdecai's infamy is likely the reason it's tracking atop Redbox's rental chart for the week, putting it ahead of holdover titles such as Sony Pictures' The Wedding Ringer and Paramount's The Gambler.
