Projections: 'Divergent' Set for Big Disc Debut11 Aug, 2014 By: John Latchem
Lionsgate's Divergent should easily top the home video sales and rental charts for the week ending Aug. 10. The film grossed $151 million in U.S. theaters during its theatrical run, making it the biggest new disc release in several weeks.
Several other new releases will compete with Paramount's Noah, the previous week's top seller, for a top spot on the charts. The best option is the faith-based sleeper God's Not Dead, which grossed an impressive $60.8 million at the domestic box office and could land in the No. 2 spot.
Other new releases include DreamWorks' Disney-distributed actioner Need for Speed ($43.6 million domestic gross) and Fox's thriller Oculus ($27.7 million).
New to the rental chart will be Universal's Bad Words, which comes off its 28-day holdback from Redbox.
