Projections: 'Divergent' Seeks Repetition

18 Aug, 2014 By: John Latchem

Lionsgate's Divergent is in good position to repeat in the top spot of the sales and rental charts for the week ending Aug. 17, if it can overcome some high-profile yet modest-performing new releases.

The biggest new release is Disney's Muppets Most Wanted, which underperformed at the box office with just $51.2 million domestically. Another new release is Universal's A Haunted House 2, a comedy that earned just $17.3 million at the domestic box office.

On the rental chart, Fox's Rio 2 comes off its 28-day holdback from Redbox, while Warner's Transcendence is available at Redbox after a 21-day window, and both should move into a high chart spot. Muppets Most Wanted wasn't tracking high on the Redbox charts earlier in the release week.
