Projections: Disney Betting on DTV Dogs

7 Feb, 2011 By: John Latchem

With relatively light competition, the backing of Disney’s marketing machine and wide availability at retail, there’s no reason to think the direct-to-video sequel Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 won’t be the top-selling title its first week in stores.

Given the paucity of major new releases, Disney’s Blu-ray of its animated Alice in Wonderland should also perform well. Disney released a special-edition DVD of the 1951 film last year, so demand probably won’t be enough to push it too high up the charts a la Beauty and the Beast.

Summit’s Red should be able to repeat atop the rental chart.
