Projections: 'Cloudy' Set for Sunny Day

11 Jan, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

The end of the fourth-quarter buying frenzy brings with it a lull in new releases.

This should give Sony Pictures’ Jan. 5 DVD and Blu-ray release of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs ($124 million) a chance to sweep the charts. Although animated pictures rarely debut at No. 1, Cloudy will surely be the exception, as it is the only picture with a broad audience appeal to have been released for the week ending Jan. 10.

The other major title to have been released Jan. 5 was The Final Destination ($66 million), the fourth installment in the horror franchise from Warner. The title should fare well for itself, seizing second place on the top-selling DVD and top-selling Blu-ray Disc charts, and third on the national top rentals chart.
