Projections: Charts Subject To 'Abduction'
23 Jan, 2012 By: John Latchem
A slow start to the new year means any number of titles could slip into the No. 1 position on the sales chart.
The highest-grossing new release among the Jan. 17 titles is Sony Pictures’ political thriller The Ides of March, with about $41 million domestically. Sony Pictures’ Courageous ($34 million) has strong faith-based appeal. But Lionsgate’s Abduction ($28 million) has Taylor Lautner, whose “Twilight” fan base could put the film over the top.
Sony’s Moneyball should repeat atop the rental chart.
