Projections: 'Alvin,' 'Holmes' Should Repeat

12 Apr, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

It is a slow week for new releases. For the week ending April 11, the only major theatrical release to come to DVD and Blu-ray Disc was the Nicolas Cage thriller Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, which earned only $1.7 million in domestic theaters.

Without a strong new contender to shake things up, the charts should belong to the strong holdover titles from weeks past. Keep an eye on Warner’s Sherlock Holmes ($208.7 million) and The Blind Side ($255.5 million), Summit’s New Moon ($296.6 million million) and Fox’s Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel ($219.3 million).

Of the group of holdovers, Sherlock Holmes will grab No. 1 on the national top Blu-ray sellers chart and the national top rentals chart, while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel should hold onto No. 1 on the top sellers chart for a second week running.
