Projections: 'Alien: Covenant' Looking to Land at No. 1

21 Aug, 2017 By: John Latchem

Fox's Alien: Covenant should easily debut at No. 1 on the home video sales charts the week ending Aug. 19.

The latest film in the "Alien" franchise (the sixth, following Prometheus but ignoring the "Alien vs. Predator" movies) underperformed in theaters with just $74.2 million at the U.S. box office, but should have enough clout to perform well in the home video market.

The Lionsgate comedy How to Be a Latin Lover also should garner a solid debut in a week where most of the notable titles are previously released holdovers.

On the weekly rental chart, Fox's Snatched and Warner's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword should take the top two spots after sitting out a week due to a studio-mandated week-long delay at Redbox rental kiosks. Snatched trending at No. 1 and King Arthur at No. 2 is a reversal of their debuts on the home video sales charts a week earlier.
