Projections: ‘Valentine’s Day’ Will Get the Love

24 May, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

With more than $110 million in domestic box office revenue and a cast of ‘A’-list celebrities, Warner’s romantic comedy Valentine’s Day, which hit disc May 18, is sure to take the cake for the week ended May 23.

Other notable releases for the week include Warner’s sports drama Invictus ($37.5 million), starring Matt Damon and directed by Clint Eastwood, and Lionsgate’s action comedy The Spy Next Door ($24 million), starring Jackie Chan.

After holding onto No. 1 on the sales chart for four consecutive weeks, Fox’s Avatar will finally fall to No. 2 for the week ended May 23, just behind newcomer Valentine’s Day. Warner’s Invictus should also perform well, rounding out the top three.

Also released May 18 was the Sony Pictures medical drama Extraordinary Measures ($12 million), starring Brendan Fraser and Harrison Ford, and The Messenger ($1.1 million), a military drama from Oscilloscope Pictures starring Woody Harrelson.
