Projections: ‘Red,’ ‘Secretariat’ Race to the Front

31 Jan, 2011 By: John Latchem

After weeks of light new-release lineups to kick off the new year, things are starting to pick up a bit with a trio of notable, if not world-beating, titles.

With a $90.2 million domestic box office take, Summit’s Red, adapted from a DC Comics series, is poised to finish in the top spot. Disney’s Secretariat, a biopic about the famous horse, is also in the hunt for a strong finish, having earned $59.6 million domestically.

Lionsgate’s Saw: The Final Chapter, the latest big 3D release, might also attract attention if it can overcome some franchise fatigue after a $45.7 million box office haul.
