Projections: ‘Percy,’ ‘Hot Tub’ to Repeat Atop Charts

12 Jul, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

The low-wattage box office power of new releases for the week ended July 11 should allow the previous week’s releases to stay atop the charts. The combined theatrical power of the three major new releases for the week totaled less than $50 million.

Anchor Bay came out with the crime drama Brooklyn’s Finest, starring Don Cheadle, Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke, and which earned more than $27 million in domestic theaters. Sony Pictures released the drama A Single Man, which earned $9.2 million theatrically, while Music Box Films came out with the thriller The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which earned $9.1 million.

Of the new releases for the week, Brooklyn’s Finest should perform best, but it is unlikely to become the top selling or top renting title for the week. Instead, Fox’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians and Hot Tub Time Machine will hold strong at first and second place for a second consecutive week.
