Projections: ‘Lightning’ Should Strike at No. 1

5 Jul, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

Three under-$100 million box office earners debuted on disc June 29. Fox had the adventure-fantasy Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which earned nearly $90 million in domestic theaters, and MGM offered the John Cusack comedy Hot Tub Time Machine, which earned $50 million in theaters.

Also debuting was the horror flick The Crazies, from Anchor Bay, which earned $39 million theatrically.

The Lightning Thief should be the big winner for the week, landing first on the national top sales and rental charts, while Hot Tub Time Machine should perform respectably, landing at No. 3 on both charts. Anchor Bay’s The Crazies should debut at No. 5.
