Projections: ‘Grown Ups’ May Be Outplayed By ‘Toy’

15 Nov, 2010 By: John Latchem

Though Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Grown Ups hits stores with the pedigree of a $162 million box office hit, the huge momentum of Disney’s Toy Story 3 should be enough to put the animated blockbuster in the top spot on the sales and rental charts for a second consecutive week. If Grown Ups can’t overtake it, expect the Adam Sandler comedy to finish a close second.

Several modest box office performers also hit disc Nov. 9, including Fox’s $26.2 million family film Ramona and Beezus, and Universal’s Charlie St. Cloud ($31.2 million) and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World ($31.5 million).

With a strong niche appeal, Scott Pilgrim should perform the best among the trio, but not at the level of Toy Story 3 or Grown Ups (though it may outperform Grown Ups on the Blu-ray chart).

TV DVD titles that could crack the top 20 include Californication: The Third Season and Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series.
