Projections: ‘Gamer’ Should Score

25 Jan, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

A number of low box-office performers came to DVD and Blu-ray Disc Jan. 19. The title with the highest box office gross was Lionsgate’s Gamer, an actioner starring Gerard Butler, which raked in $20.5 million in domestic theaters.

Next in line is Warner’s comedy The Invention of Lying ($18.5 million) from “The Office” co-creator Ricky Gervais. Also out Jan. 19 was Anchor Bay’s sci-fi thriller Pandorum ($10 million) and Warner’s thriller Whiteout ($10 million), starring Kate Beckinsale as a U.S. Marshall who is sent to track down a killer hiding out in Antarctica.

With Butler in the principle role, Gamer looks to be the strongest title for the week ending Jan. 24. It will likely snag the No. 1 spot on both the national top rental chart and the national top sellers chart. The Invention of Lying should also perform well, debuting at No. 2 on the top rentals chart and No. 3 on the top sellers.
