Projections: ‘Blind Side’ Won’t Knock Out ‘New Moon’

29 Mar, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

Several promising new releases came to DVD and Blu-ray disc March 23. With a domestic box office gross of more than $250 million, Warner’s football drama The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock, is the most impressive title for the week.

Also released was the comedy The Men Who Stare at Goats ($32.4 million), from Anchor Bay and featuring an all-star cast including George Clooney and Jeff Bridges. From Lionsgate came the war drama Brothers ($28.5 million), starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman, and lastly, from Fox, came the animated picture Fantastic Mr. Fox ($21 million), based on the story by Roald Dahl and featuring the voices of George Clooney and Meryl Streep.

On another week The Blind Side would have scored a clear victory on the charts. However, with New Moon having been released on March 20, Blind Side will likely do no better than second place on the sales chart, while Summit’s vampire flick should hold onto No. 1 for a second week running.
