Projections: ‘Avatar’ to Dominate Charts Again

17 May, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

Several mid-range box office performers came to DVD and Blu-ray Disc May 11.

Leading the pack with $43 million in box office revenue was the Mel Gibson thriller Edge of Darkness from Warner. Tailing closely in second was Sony Pictures’ Legion, a supernatural thriller about the end of the world that earned slightly more than $40 million in theaters. Lastly came Lionsgate’s horror flick Daybreakers, which earned just more than $30 million.

Although, taken together, the new releases for the week represent a total box office power of $113 million, it is unlikely that a new release will knock Fox’s Avatar from the top of the charts. Avatar should hold onto No. 1 for the week ending May 16 for the fourth consecutive week.
