According to Rentrak’s Digital Download Essentials tracking service, Disney’s Oscar-winning animated hit Frozen was the No. 1 title for digital viewing in the first half of 2014. The report includes Internet video-on-demand and electronic sellthrough for both standard-definition and digital HD movie purchases and rentals.
Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tracked in second place, followed by Paramount’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Sony Pictures’ Captain Phillips, Warner’s Gravity, Fox’s 12 Years a Slave, Sony Pictures’ American Hustle, Disney’s Thor: The Dark World, Warner’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Paramount’s Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.
The service does not include Universal titles, though Rentrak reported Universal ranked as the top studio for movies purchased and rented digitally in the first half of 2014 based on overall transactions and retail revenue.
