'Despicable Me 2' Tops Charts for 4th Consecutive Week8 Jan, 2014 By: John Latchem
Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2 pushed its dominance on the sales charts into the new year, topping both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks DVD and Blu-ray Disc combined sales, and its dedicated Blu-ray sales chart for a fourth consecutive week in the sales period ended Jan. 5.
The feat marks the most consecutive weeks a title landed at No. 1 since Brave went three in a row in November 2012, and Despicable Me 2 is the first title to score four in a row since Rio in August 2011.
Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 landed at No. 2 on the overall sales chart for the fourth straight week, but slipped to No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart, where Man of Steel flew up to No. 2.
Warner’s Superman reboot checked in at No. 4 on the overall chart, behind Fox’s Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters at No. 3 (No. 4 on the BD chart).
Disney’s The Lone Ranger held onto No. 5 (No. 6 on the BD chart), followed by Sony Pictures’ Elysium at No. 6 (No. 5 on the BD chart).
The top new release was the Fox comedy Don Jon, at No. 7.
On Home Media Magazine’s rental chart, Fox’s The Wolverine came off its 28-day holdback at Redbox and Netflix to climb into the top spot, displacing Warner’s We’re the Millers, which came in at No. 2.
