Universal Studios Home Entertainment scored a triple-slam on the home video charts the week ended Sept. 26, as director Ridley Scott’s live-action Robin Hood debuted at No. 1 on all three charts.
The action adventure, which stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett and grossed $105.3 million in U.S. theaters, narrowly grabbed the top spot on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart.
Second place went to Walt Disney Studios’ Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, which at Nielsen-reporting retailers sold 91% as many copies as Robin Hood. Nielsen numbers do not include Walmart or Sam’s Club, where family titles typically sell better than at other retailers.
Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the previous week’s top seller, slipped to No. 3.
Robin Hood also was the top-selling Blu-ray Disc of the week, according to Nielsen data. On Blu-ray, Robin Hood outsold Tinker Bell by a nearly 2-to-1 margin, although the Disney video premiere was still the week’s No. 2 Blu-ray Disc seller.
Blu-ray Disc accounted for 42% of all unit sales of Robin Hood, as opposed to 26% of Tinker Bell disc sales.
Prince of Persia, the previous week’s top-selling Blu-ray Disc, slipped to No. 3, while Anchor Bay Entertainment’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand — The Complete First Season made an impressive debut on the high-definition format, entering the Blu-ray charts at No. 4.
