Media-Tech Committee to Promote Disc27 May, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey
The Media-Tech Association, which represents the storage media manufacturing industry, has established a new executive committee made up of European disc replicators. The committee’s goal will be to unite replicators and suppliers, and present a unified voice promoting the optical disc industry.
“There is currently no real voice out there to promote packaged media, whether it is CD, DVD or Blu-ray,” said association managing director Bryan Ekus. “The equipment manufacturers and replicators realized that a collective voice would be of great benefit to everyone.”
The committee has representatives from Cinram, CDA, InfoDisc, kdg mediatech, MPO and Sonopress/Arvato. Michael Gutowski of InfoDisc in Germany will serve as chairman. The committee also will discuss piracy and content protection issues.
“Our aim is to promote the industry and raise awareness of Blu-ray and all the issues surrounding it,” Gutowski said. “We want to be able to open discussions with the relevant companies and organizations to find a way to move forward on helping to level the Blu-ray playing field for the independent companies.
“The industry has been shrinking, and it makes sense for us all to put our resources together to a common aim.”
