New Service Bows Email Movie Previews14 Sep, 2011
Prescreen says it can maximize a movie title’s rental prowess through social media
A new service launched Sept. 14 that allows content owners and studios to market new-release movie rentals through targeted emails with trailers and links to social media websites.
San Francisco-based Prescreen (www.prescreen.com) sends registered users a daily email featuring a new movie’s trailer. Users can then rent the movie electronically and view it up to 60 days later. They can also earn discounts and rewards for sharing information about the film through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
That data — tracked anonymously — then is delivered to filmmakers and distributors in a performance report.
One of Prescreen’s first films will be Kino Lorber’s The Robber, a story of a champion marathoner who leads a double life as a serial bank robber, sprinting between heists and escaping from police in epic chase sequences.
The film was directed by Austrian Benjamin Heisenberg and stars Andreas Lust (Revanche).
“In this rapidly changing digital distribution landscape, increasing market penetration means thinking outside the box — which is exactly why we're working with [Prescreen],” said Richard Lorber, CEO of Kino Lorber.
