Hastings to Bow Relocated Store Aug. 2724 Aug, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Hastings Entertainment Aug. 24 said it would offer previously announced 49-cent DVD movie rentals when it opens a relocated superstore in Killeen, Texas.
Dubbed “The 49 cent Movie Rental Store,” Amarillo-based Hastings offers rentals of more than 7,000 titles from 49 cents per day or $1.99 per week in most of its 147 stores located in 20 states throughout the Southwest.
Hastings also helps maintain rental inventory of popular titles by giving consumers early-return store credit for select movies and video games. A typical Hastings store carries about 15,000 new and used movies, including Blu-ray Disc.
The relocated store, which employs 55 people, also features an in-store Hardback Coffee Café with Wi-Fi access, in addition to new and used books and consumer electronics.
“When you combine our huge rental and merchandise selection with the ability to sell back your used product, we think we’ve created the most exciting [entertainment] store in the industry,” said Kevin Ball, VP of marketing with Hastings.
Hastings recently reported a narrowed net loss of $100,000 (from $400,000 last year) for the second quarter (ended July 31).
