Video Buyers Group: Redbox Having Trouble Stocking New Titles

18 Nov, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey

The Video Buyers Group, which represents independent rentailers nationwide, said Nov. 18 that the Nov. 17 releases of My Sister’s Keeper from Warner Home Video and Bruno from Universal Studios Home Entertainment are largely absent in a majority of Redbox rental kiosks.

Sending its members out to kiosks nationwide, and checking availability of the two titles online, the organization said of the 528 machines they checked, none had those two titles on release date, 11.1% had Bruno Nov. 18, and 8.1% had My Sister’s Keeper Nov. 18.

The Group plans on checking the status of the two titles through the weekend.

Warner and Universal, along with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, are refusing to allow wholesalers to sell new release titles to Redbox, forcing the kiosk operator to buy their DVDs at retail.
