Redbox Instant App Coming to Xbox One10 Nov, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Redbox Instant, the cross-platform rental service offering both physical and digital media, will be available as an app Nov. 22 when Microsoft launches the new Xbox One gaming console.
Similar to the new PlayStation 4, the Xbox One incorporates social media, in addition to physical and digital gaming, video and related streaming functionality.
One users can unlock both “persistent” and “challenge” achievements, including the “Blackjack!” which rewards users who watch 21 movies, and “Fearless” for horror fans who watch 10 frightening films. These achievements encourage users to share their passion for film with friends.
The Redbox Instant by Verizon experience will also support features exclusive to Xbox One, including “Hero Stats,” “OneGuide channel,” “Snap mode” and “Pins.”
“The Redbox Instant team took full advantage of the Xbox One architecture and rebuilt the app from the ground up to bring to life awesome features like media achievements and the app channel on OneGuide,” Kathy Styponias, GM of interactive entertainment business at Microsoft, said in a statement.
Xbox One is just the latest device offering Redbox Instant. Other devices include Xbox 360, Roku, Samsung Smart TVs, Blu-ray Disc players, Sony devices, LG Smart TVs, Google TVs, Apple iPhones and iPads, and Android phones, and through Windows and iOS browsers.
