PepsiCo, Redbox Announce Partnership

26 May, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey

Tech-savvy Redbox consumers have been sharing free rental codes for years, but now everyone with a case of the munchies can get one.

Starting this month anyone who buys three Pepsi or Frito Lay products at Kroger grocery stores will receive a free one-night rental code for a Redbox DVD. The promotion, dubbed “Make it a Movie Night,” runs through 2010.

“With new movies released in Redbox kiosks every week, the year-long ‘Make it a Movie Night’ in-store program provides Kroger customers and Pepsi fans with a reward they can redeem in-store and raises awareness of Redbox’s presence at Kroger stores nationwide,” said Gary Cohen, SVP of marketing and customer experience for Redbox. “Movies are the centerpiece of many family nights, and we’re thrilled Redbox is integral to this multibrand program.”

The promotion will feature point-of-sale signage in soft drink, bagged snack and popcorn corners of Kroger stores.

“The pilot results have been fantastic, doubling sales growth on participating products, increasing shopper’s spend per basket, and growing Kroger’s share of wallet on the featured items,” said Geoff Kuzio, director of shopper marketing for PepsiCo’s Kroger team. “This promotion rewards our consumers and creates a compelling in-store solution for convenient and affordable family entertainment.”

Participating brands include Tostitos Tortilla Chips, Cheetos, Ruffles, Lays Dip, Pepsi and Mountain Dew.
