Projections: 'Ride Along' Hopes to Drive Past 'Mitty,' 'Hobbit'21 Apr, 2014 By: John Latchem
A few high-profile new releases will attempt to bump Warner's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug from the top spot on the home video sales charts the week ending April 20.
The top contenders are Universal's Ride Along and Fox's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Ride Along has the box office clout, $134.2 million to Mitty's $58.2 million, as well as strong urban appeal. If Mitty has any advantage, it would be a strong retail presence.
On the rental chart, Warner's Grudge Match will look to jump up to one of the top spots after a shorter embargo window at Redbox, delayed just a week as opposed to the usual 28 days for a Warner title. That would bump Homefront to the likely No. 2 position.
