Projections: 'Contagion' Best Bet to Infect Charts

9 Jan, 2012 By: John Latchem

A weak crop of titles to kick off the new year could pave the way for an older favorite to sneak back into one of the top chart spots, thanks to some post-holiday sales.

Warner’s Contagion was the best performer from among the Jan. 3 new releases, grossing about $76 million at the domestic box office.

The rental chart should see some month-old hits jumping back up the chart due to the end of their 28-day kiosk embargoes, led by Warner’s The Hangover Part II and Universal’s Cowboys & Aliens.
