Vivendi Acquires ‘Garfield,’ ‘Harriet’

Vivendi Entertainment has acquired the U.S. home video and digital rights to Cartoon Network’s “The Garfield Show” and Disney Channel’s TV movie Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars.

Under the multiyear “Garfield” deal, Vivendi will distribute 104 11-minute episodes from the series’ first two seasons, packaged as multiple thematic DVDs.

“This is going to be one of those DVDs that is fun for kids and adults,” said Jim Davis, creator of Garfield.

The CG-animated version of the classic comic strip is produced by French production company Darguad Media and debuted on Cartoon Network in 2009.

Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars
stars Jennifer Stone (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) and was a ratings winner upon its premiere March 26. The movie is based on the books by Louise Fitzhugh, as Harriet competes with her nemesis to become the official blogger of her high-school class.

Extras on the DVD include interviews and bloopers.

Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars
($19.39) and the first “Garfield Show” DVD ($14.97) are slated for Sept. 28 (order date Aug. 24).
