Don’t let the recession get in the way of lucrative business models. That’s the attitude over at Universal Studios Home Entertainment, where work is proceeding on the fourth direct-to-video sequel to Bring It On, the $63 million-grossing cheerleader comedy from 2000 that has already spawned three top-selling DTV spinoffs.

Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment Family Productions and Beacon Pictures, will debut on DVD late this summer under the DVD Originals banner.

The film stars Grammy-nominated recording star and actress Christina Milian, a veteran of such TV shows as “Smallville” and “Get Real,” and is directed by Billie Woodruff, a popular music video director who also helmed the feature films Honey, with Jessica Alba, and Beauty Shop, with Queen Latifah.

“There is a tremendous appetite out there for well-made, high-energy, dance-oriented movies,” said Glenn Ross, EVP of Universal Studios Home Entertainment Family Productions. “We’ve made it a priority to keep surprising fans of the franchise with real fresh ideas, as well as bringing the hottest music, the latest dance moves and the brightest new stars to the screen.”

Indeed, previous Bring It On films have featured such stars as Kirsten Dunst, Hayden Panettiere, Eliza Dushku, and recording stars Solange Knowles and Rihanna.

The latest installment in the franchise also stars such newcomers as Rachele Smith, Cody Longo, Holland Roden and Nikki Soohoo. Bring It On: Fight to the Finish was filmed entirely in the Los Angeles area.
