Universal to Release Faith-Based 'Unbroken' Special-Edition DVD

16 Mar, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

“Legacy of Faith” bonus disc features 90 minutes of content from Louie Zamperini, Billy Graham, Greg Laurie and others.

In addition to the standard Blu-ray and DVD versions, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment March 24 will release a special faith-based DVD edition of Oscar-nominated war drama Unbroken from director Angelina Jolie.

The film follows the life of Olympian and war hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII — only to be caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. During his ordeals, Zamperini vowed to give his life to God if he survived.

The “Legacy of Faith” special-edition DVD will contain a 90-minute bonus disc highlighting interviews and documentary footage of Zamperini (who died last July at age 97), along with Billy Graham, Greg Laurie and others. Highlights include: CBN's "Coming Full Circle," Greg Laurie's Harvest Crusade Interview and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's "Captured By Grace" documentary.

"Louie Zamperini's story has been an inspiration to tens of millions of people of faith, and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is responding to this outpouring of support by creating a special bonus disc that celebrates his life and his testimony," Matthew Faraci, spokesman for Universal Home Entertainment's faith outreach, said in a statement. "The bonus disc … will delight everyone, providing the perfect resource for faith leaders seeking to continue the conversation and examine the lessons from this film."

The "Legacy of Faith" edition is primarily available through Christian specialty outlets.

Additional footage contained in the retail release is available at unbrokenresources.org.
