TLA Releasing Promotes Films With Mini-Fest3 Oct, 2008 By: Kyra Kudick
TLA Releasing recently screened “Six of the Hottest Gay Films” during a traveling weeklong mini-festival, dubbed TLA Releasing Presents, in New York, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The self-contained festival was designed as a marketing tool to build awareness for recently released titles as well as some that will be released later this year on DVD.
“TLA Releasing Presents marks a new approach to theatrical distribution for us, and it has exceeded our expectations,” said Raymond Murray, president of TLA Releasing. “We plan to continue our mini-fest strategy for upcoming films as it gives us an outlet to target our audiences and provides a fresh opportunity for our films to be seen in theaters.”
Each film was screened multiple times during the week, and filmmakers attended Q&A sessions in each market.
The six films included in the festival were Bangkok Love Story, Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon, Boystown, Dog Tags, 3-Day Weekend and I Dreamt Under the Water.
Both Bangkok Love Story (DVD $19.99) and I Dreamt Under the Water (DVD $19.99) are available now. Bangkok Love Story is a twisted drama in which an assassin-for-hire and his target become lovers. In I Dreamt Under the Water, a man goes on a rampage of self-destructive behavior after his lover dies.
Both Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon (DVD $19.99) and Boystown (DVD $19.99) will be released Oct. 28. The documentary Wrangler chronicles the life of gay adult film star Jack Wrangler. The Spanish dark comedy Boystown follows a couple as they attempt to solve a murder mystery.
Nov. 18 (prebook Oct. 21) sees the release of Dog Tags (DVD $19.99) and 3-Day Weekend (DVD $19.99). Dog Tags is an emotional drama about a young Marine’s journey to self-discovery. In 3-Day Weekend, two couples and four of their single friends get together for 72 hours they will never forget.
