Independent distributor Shout! Factory has inked a multiyear distribution deal with U.K. production company ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) to bring more than 30 classic films to the home entertainment marketplace in North America.
Among the films Shout! will release via disc and digital: Sophie’s Choice (Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline), The Eagle Has Landed (Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland), On Golden Pond (Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda), The Last Unicorn (Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow), Voyage of the Damned (Faye Dunaway, Lee Grant) and The Boys From Brazil (Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier).
“Many of these iconic films have been unavailable or long out-of-print in the home entertainment marketplace,” Shout! Factory founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos said in a statement. “We look forward to bring these cinematic treasures back to their original luster and present these films to movie fans and collectors on digital entertainment platforms as well as at retail.”
Many of the films have never seen a disc release, and Shout! Factory and ITVS GE plan on remastering some titles for Blu-ray Disc. Shout! is also developing bonus features for many of the titles.
“ITVS GE’s catalogue boasts some internationally acclaimed films, and this deal with Shout! Factory will give U.S. and Canadian consumers the opportunity to view some of these cinematic classics across physical and digital platforms,” said Carol Lee, SVP of home entertainment Americas for ITVS GE.
