Paramount Slates 'World War Z' for Sept. 172 Aug, 2013 By: John Latchem
Paramount Home Media Distribution will release the hit zombie apocalypse thriller World War Z on DVD and Blu-ray Sept. 17 (order date Aug. 6). In addition, the Blu-ray of the film will include an unrated extended cut of the film.
The film, based on the novel by Max Brooks, tells the story of a man (Brad Pitt) trying to protect his family when the world is overrun by hordes of zombies. It has grossed nearly $200 million at the domestic box office and about $475 million globally.
In addition to the unrated cut of the film, the Blu-ray combo pack ($39.99) will include a series of production featurettes, a featurette about the history and science behind zombies, a DVD of the theatrical cut and UltraViolet access to the film.
The 3D Blu-ray combo pack ($49.99) will include all the content from the Blu-ray edition, plus the theatrical cut in 3D.
A standalone DVD of the theatrical cut will be available for $29.99
World War Z will be available through digital channels beginning Sept. 10.
Paramount has also remastered the film digitally for a special one-week run at Imax 3D theaters beginning Aug. 2.
