New Video Adds Arthouse

20 Oct, 2009 By: Jordan Harrison

New Video has become the U.S. distributor of Arthouse Films.

Under a new deal, New Video will distribute Arthouse’s content under the Arthouse Films label. Its first release, Herb & Dorothy, is slated for Dec. 15. The film is set in the 1960s about a middle-class married couple that creates the most renowned and important art collection. Herb & Dorothy is running now in select theaters.

Other titles to hit DVD in 2010 include Milton Glaser: To Inform & Delight, Rem Koolhaas: A Kind of Architect and Visual Acoustics.

In addition to new Arthouse releases, New Video will re-release at least 10 Arthouse catalog titles, including Black White + Grey, The Universe of Keith Haring and The Cats of Mirikitani.

Arthouse Films is an independent film production and distribution label based in New York City and Los Angeles and acquires, produces and distributes more than 20 titles annually that see a theatrical release. The studio’s focus on film and art and culture was a selling point for New Video.

“The quality and subject matter of Arthouse Film’s titles elevate our appreciation of the arts in various disciplines,” said Susan Margolin, Co-Principal of New Video. “There is certainly a cultural need and a healthy market for these films.”

New Video also will look to increase distribution in museum gift stores, book stores and art friendly retailers.
