Moovida Media Player Debuts at CES

6 Jan, 2011 By: Ashley Ratcliff

Software developer Moovida Jan. 6 announced it will release a media player that allows users to retrieve, manage and play movies, TV episodes and music in various formats.

The product is debuting at the International Consumer Electronics Show, taking place through Jan. 9 in Las Vegas.

“Digital entertainment media, especially movies, is everywhere, but nowhere. Consumers have to navigate a bewildering set of incompatible formats, competing content retailers with incomplete media offerings, and closed or complex ecosystems that make it difficult and frustrating to enjoy,” Moovida CEO Emmanuel Marquez said. “At Moovida, we turned our own passion about movies into a tool that lets fellow movie lovers everywhere find what they want and enjoy it when they want to.”

Among Moovida’s features is that the product automatically backs up and catalogs DVD content, while also offering cover art, movie posters, synopses and more. The media player is equipped with a 3D graphics interface, which displays animated images as a user chooses from the movie titles. Additional information — such as run time, director and cast — appears in a pop-up screen once a film is selected.

The Moovida database boasts more than 70,000 films, searchable by title, actor, director, genre or the user’s filter of choice in English, French, Spanish, Italian or German. The database continues to expand, as the community of users add information about their movies and share it with friends.

Moovida soon will show users where they can rent, purchase or stream a film online.
