Kaleidescape Launches New Media Server

2 Dec, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey

Movie server company Kaleidescape is launching a new out-of-the-box DVD server, the company’s first server priced less than $5,000.

The Cinema One can hold 225 DVDs or 2,500 CDs and doesn’t need any storage configuration, allowing for instant play and easy searching by title, actor, director or genre. The server also allows for video content to be viewed in one part of the home, while music is played in another.

The server also incorporates Kaleidescape’s interface for children, automatically switching to a simpler interface when the included children’s remote is used.

“Our dealers and customers have been asking for a simple-to-install Kaleidescape System,” said Michael Malcolm, founder, chairman and CEO of Kaleidescape. “The Cinema One makes it possible for many more customers to enjoy the richness of the Kaleidescape experience.”

The system has a list price of $4,995.

“The Cinema One is the perfect system for families because DVDs offer the broadest selection of children’s content," said Leonard Bellezza, president of New York City’s Lyric HiFi & Video. “With the Child Remote, even a toddler can find his own programs, and when he presses play, it starts instantly without trailers, advertisements and menus.”
