20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and WWE Studios have begun production on the direct-to-video film The Marine 2 in Phuket, Thailand. Production started Nov. 21, and the DVD is due in 2010.
Roel Reiné (Pistol Whipped) will direct the film, a sequel to the 2006 film The Marine, which starred WWE’s John Cena as a recently discharged marine who must track down a group of diamond thieves who kidnapped his wife. The Marine 2 will star fellow WWE star Ted DiBiase Jr., as well as Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack Of The Clones), Lara Cox (“The Lost World”), Robert Coleby (The Marine) and Michael Rooker (Jumper).
The Marine 2 marks the second direct-to-video offering from a deal between WWE Studios and Fox Filmed Entertainment for film projects featuring WWE stars. The deal incorporates theatrical, direct digital download and DTV projects.
