Film Movement has acquired the Uruguayan comedy Gigante. The film is about a shy man’s innocent obsession with a supermarket co-worker. The film won the Grand Jury award, the Alfred Bauer prize and the Best Debut Film award at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival. It was also nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear.

“Hands down the most charming film in competition at this year’s Berlinale, Gigante is yet another example of a burgeoning Uruguayan cinema that keeps surprising us with its unique humor and sensibility,” said Adley Gartenstein of Film Movement.

The films open theatrically in the fall.
