Seeking to circumvent costly theatrical distribution, Red Rock Pictures Holdings Inc. April 7 said it partnered with National Lampoon and Van’s Warped Tour for the June DVD release of Endless Bummer, starring Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo) and James Remar (“Dexter”).

The 2008 comedy — co-written and produced by Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman — features a group of teens and a veteran surfer who take a road trip from Ventura, Calif., to the San Fernando Valley to track down a prized stolen surfboard.

The DVD will be released at retail and rental to coincide with the 15th Warped Tour that hits 50 cities this summer.

Red Rock CEO Reno Rolle said that with box office exposure typically fueling sales and rental revenue of DVDs, he expects the Van’s Warped Tour to expose the disc to about 800,000 kids.

“We expect to generate significant awareness promoting the film throughout the 50-city tour,” Rolle said. “This should translate very effectively into sales and rental of the DVD in the various retail outlets. In effect, we’re replacing the theatrical component of traditional film distribution by partnering with a live concert tour.”

In addition to production and marketing expertise, Red Rock will facilitate licensing of the National Lampoon brand and distribution services at the retail level.

The film's soundtrack features covers of 80s tracks from bands such as The Aggrolites, Pennywise, The Circle Jerks, Joan Jett (who co-stars) and The Blackhearts, The Action Design, FEAR, The Briggs, The Dollyrots, Raging Arb and the Redheads, The Robbery, and Katy Perry.
