‘Dark Knight,’ ‘Wall-E,’ ‘Twilight’ Nab EMA Awards

Warner Home Video’s The Dark Knight won four of the Entertainment Merchants Association’s (EMA) Home Entertainment Awards, while Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s Wall-E earned two awards.

EMA announced the awards July 13, recognizing 16 titles for quality and popularity, and inducted Warner’s The Wizard of Oz into its Video Hall of Fame. Winners included Summit Home Entertainment’s Twilight, which won sellthrough title of the year from an independent studio, and Lionsgate’s Mad Men: Season One, winning current TV series of the year.

“Each of the selected titles is exceptional and represents the best in home entertainment,” said EMA president and CEO, Bo Andersen. “We are delighted to recognize them and the outstanding entertainment that home video provides to the American consumer.”
 
Eligible titles were released between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009, and winners were chosen by EMA retail and distributor members. The winners are:

Animated Title of the Year: Wall-E Special Edition, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Archival TV Series of the Year: The Complete Monty Python’s Flying Circus: Collector's Edition, A&E Home Entertainment
Blu-ray Title of the Year: The Dark Knight, Warner Home Video
Children’s/Family Title of the Year: Kung Fu Panda, Paramount Home Entertainment/DreamWorks
Current TV Series of the Year: Mad Men: Season One, Lionsgate
Direct to DVD/Limited Release of the Year from a Major Studio: 24: Redemption, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
Direct to DVD/Limited Release of the Year from an Independent Studio: Transsiberian, First Look Studios
Documentary Title of the Year: Man on Wire, Magnolia Home Entertainment
DVD Extras of the Year: The Dark Knight, Warner Home Video
Foreign Title of the Year: The Counterfeiters, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Marketing Campaign of the Year: The Dark Knight, Warner Home Video
Music DVD of the Year: Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Packaging of the Year: Wall-E (green DVD packaging), Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
