Warner Home Video is bringing the box office phenomenon The Dark Knight to home video Dec. 9 (prebook Oct. 28).

The film, a sequel to 2005’s Batman Begins, will be available as a single-disc DVD at $28.98, a two-DVD set at $34.99 and a two-disc Blu-ray set at $35.99.

The Dark Knight chronicles the efforts of Batman (Christian Bale), police Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and new district attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) to clean up Gotham City. Their plans are turned on edge when the mob hires the maniacal Joker (the late Heath Ledger) to stop Batman.

Extras include behind-the-scenes material with director Christopher Nolan, two documentaries exploring the psyche of Batman and his arsenal of weapons, and a digital copy of the film.

The Blu-ray version, which uses BD Live, includes action sequences originally framed for the Imax format. The special-edition DVD includes a special look at the Imax process.

The Dark Knight shattered several box office records, grossing more than $520 million domestically to earn the top spot for 2008 and No. 2 on the all-time list. The film has earned nearly $1 billion worldwide.
