‘North by Northwest’ to Hit Blu-ray Nov. 3

20 Jul, 2009 By: Stephanie Prange

Warner Home Video Nov. 3 will release a 50th anniversary edition of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic North by Northwest on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. It’s the first time a Hitchcock film will come out in the high-definition format.

The million-dollar restoration in 1080p was taken from original VistaVision film elements.

The high-definition release will come out in Blu-ray Book packaging at $34.99; the DVD special edition is $24.98. Both versions include two new documentaries, The Master’s Touch: Hitchcock’s Signature Style and North by Northwest: One for the Ages, which features top directors Guillermo del Toro, William Friedkin, Curtis Hanson and Francis Lawrence talking about the film’s importance and its influence on their own work. The Blu-ray Book also contains 44 pages full of photos, film facts and ‘insider information.’

Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason and Martin Landau star in the espionage caper, which was nominated for three Academy Awards for best screenplay, best editing and best art direction. The Library of Congress selected North by Northwest for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

Order date is Sept. 29.
