‘Heathers’ Graduates Into EMA’s Video Hall of Fame15 Jul, 2010 By: Billy Gil
Cult classic Heathers joins such all-time classics as Casablanca, The Godfather and The Wizard of Oz in the Entertainment Merchants Association’s (EMA) Video Hall of Fame.
Anchor Bay Entertainment, which owns the distribution rights to Heathers, will receive the honor at EMA’s Independent Product Market July 15.
“When Heathers was released in 1988, it spoke to a generation of viewers offering something both distinct and familiar in its storytelling,” said EMA president and CEO Bo Andersen. “Now new generations of moviegoers pick up their own copy of the film and relive the excitement and fears of their youth.”
The Video Hall of Fame inducts films that perform well in both video sales and rental over an extended period of time, and they are chosen by EMA members including home entertainment retailers.
Dark comedy Heathers focuses on the newest member (Winona Ryder) of a high-school social clique dubbed the “Heathers” who decides with her rebellious friend (Christian Slater) to kill popular kids in order to settle various scores with them.
